VICTORIA OCAMPO’S HOUSE

PALERMO

Built in 1920 by the architect Alejandro Bustillo, upon request of Victoria Ocampo. Inspired in the rationalism of Le Corbusier, the house is one of the first modern buildings in Buenos Aires. The writer and essayist Victoria Ocampo was the founder of the journal and publishing house Sur, which promoted literary works from important Argentinean and international authors. The journal had its first headquarters in that house.

EVITA MUSEUM

Opened in the year 2002 on the 50th anniversary of Eva "Evita" Perón's death, this modern museum housed in a beautiful early 20th century townhouse gives a fascinating insight into the life and times of Argentina's most famous first lady.

The museum's collection includes dresses, objects and mementos that belonged to Evita, while interactive exhibits focus on different moments in her life, including her career as an actress, her relationship with president Juan Domingo Perón, and her political and social work. It also offers a window into Argentine national life at the time with displays of contemporary objects and photography.

VISIT TO A “MILONGA”

In the city of Buenos Aires there are many milongas (places where people go to dance tango), scattered throughout the different neighbourhoods, where milonguero circuits are organised (different milongas open every night of the week). Many of them organise classes (run by specialised teachers) before the dance. Tango, milonga or waltz. Old salons, cafés or neighbourhood clubs host a milonga every night where everyone can walk around the dance floor in a counter-clockwise direction.

In these tango temples you can listen to classic or modern songs: echoes of great figures such as Carlos Gardel, Aníbal Troilo and Astor Piazzolla coexist with new contemporary styles. Different voices and harmonies give free rein to the same fervour.

COOKING CLASS: ARGENTINE EXPERIENCE

A unique dinner where participants learn the fundamentals of what being an Argentine is all about. They will learn how to close an empanada using the 'repulge' technique, to order steak in Spanish, to prepare 'mate' drink.
